Inuyasha Movie 1: Toki o Koeru Omoi Summary
At the moment the Shikon no Tama was shattered, one of the shards flew far into the forest and got stuck in the trunk of a tree. The tree came to life and a figure emerged.
Sesshoumaru was walking alone during the night when two Chinese girls approached him and demanded that he give them the "Fang"; Sesshoumaru's sword Tenseiga, forged from one of his father's fangs. The girls attacked Sesshoumaru (bad idea, girls!), so he killed them and left. Suddenly on the girl's foreheads a jewel started shinning and they came back to life.
Back in Kagome's time, the Higurashi family was sitting down to have breakfast together while Kagome was cooking. Grandpa mentiond that the Tree has blossomed for the first time in nearly 500 years. Kagome, happy with the results of her cooking, packed the lunch box and went into the well.
Kagome went to find Inuyasha and the rest. Finally she located them as the group was attempting to kill a rather large and scary looking scorpion youkai. Once they started working as a team, they managed to destroy the menace... from which Kagome retrieved a Shikon shard from it's tail. Now that all the hard work was completed, they all stopped in a nearby field to have a peaceful lunch. Everyone complimented Kagome on her cooking, but when she asked Inuyasha what he thought, the hanyou merely ignored her question and searched out the instant ramen noodles from the backpack instead. Incredibly hurt, Kagome stormed off after shouting “SIT!” at Inuyasha.
Having been injured in the previous fight and apparently in pain, Kirara sat in Sango's lap licking one of her paws. Suddenly, she got down from Sango's lap and ran into the forest. Sango and Miroku chased after the small creature. In the forest they found Kirara resting in the lap of one of two girls (yup, the Chinese girls). They thanked the girls for taking care of Kirara. Suddenly, up from the ground some vines came out and trapped Sango and Miroku. On Sango's vine, scorpions started crawling up and Miroku released his Kazaana to suck them in and save Sango.
At that moment Ruri flew next to Miroku, placed her hand over his. The vines disappeared and Miroku and Sango fell onto the ground. When Ruri opened her hand, there was a Kazaana just like Miroku's! Ruri tried to suck them in with her new Kazaana, but Kaede's arrows flew to the rescue. Ruri and Hari then disappeared, taking Kirara with them.
Kikyou was walking in the forest with her soul snatchers when she found that she had come across the Tree where she had sealed Inuyasha so many years ago. Kagome, who had been about to go back through the bone eater's well saw the miko. Touching the tree, the older woman seemed to be reminiscing about what had occurred there some fifty years prior. Looking up, Kikyou realized that someone else was there... Unconsciously, Kagome hid. When Kagome managed to bring up enough courage to face Inuyasha's first love, Kikyou was gone.
Approaching the tree, Kagome seemed depressed and saw a light shining from a small crack in the trunk. When she attempted to pry the mystery object out, she pricked her finger. Walking into the clearing near the tree, Inuyasha came and saw Kagome's ‘injury' and bandaged it for her. After a tender moment, Kagome started to ask the hanyou if he had come to the tree searching for Kikyou... When he looked guilty she started to argue with him.
It was when dust started to descend upon the two that they stopped their verbal altercation and looked up to see the sky filled with a swarm of dark butterflies. From the great mass of butterflies emerged... Menoumaru. Inuyasha was quickly drawn into a physical confrontation with this new adversary and told Kagome to do her best not to inhale the dust from the butterflies. Tetsusaiga transformed back into a rusty sword after it was skillfully blocked by Menomaru. Unable to hold her breath any longer, Kagome inhaled the toxins emitted by the numerous butterflies and passed out. In a last ditch effort, Inuyasha attempted to attack his enemy with his claws, but was effectively blinded by the butterflies as they flew into his face. Stabbing the defenseless hanyou in the stomach, Menoumaru watched in evil triumph as the half dog demon fell into unconsciousness. While Inuyasha was unconscious, Menoumaru tried to steal the now pathetic looking Tetsusaiga, but was thwarted by the barrier around the sword. Instead, he kidnapped Kagome.
Inuyasha woke to find Shippou and Myouga caring for his wounds. While he was being tended to, the silver haired hanyou informed them of how he came to be in this wretched state. Recognizing the name of ‘Menoumaru', Myouga told Inuyasha how his father (Inuyasha's father, not Myouga's father... who I assume was a fine and upstanding flea) had sealed the Hyouga clan over 200 years ago when they tried to take over Japan.
Meanwhile back at Menoumaru's lair, Hari tried attach one of her mind control jewels onto Kagome's forehead, but found that it was forcibly rejected due to the girl's incredibly strong spiritual powers. Hari was given a ‘corrupted' Shikon shard which she then fused with her jewel and finally managed to affix to Kagome's forehead.
Waking, Kagome tried to free herself. Sango and Miroku arrived and were able to liberate her. Ruri and Hari were respectively pitted against Miroku and Sango.Kagome with her bow and arrows in hand threatened Menoumaru and when he was going to unleash his attack, Inuyasha arrived in time to save his reborn miko.
Inuyasha hit Menoumaru full force with a Kaze no Kizu, unknowingly falling directly into Menoumaru's trap and breaking the seal on the powers of Hyouga's family. Menoumaru began the ritual to absorb his family's power. Inuyasha tried to hit the huge sphere but it's useless, and Menoumaru sent a blast which scattered everybody.
A huge tree emerged and Menoumauru's butterflies began gathering souls from the people residing in nearby villages in order for the Youkai to consume. Luckily, Kaede was able to erect a barrier to protect her village... though, other surrounding villages weren't so lucky. The evil insects even made it to where Sesshoumaru, Rin and Jaken were; but Jaken burnt them all into cinders with the flame from his Mintouyo.
In a nearby cave, Miroku and Sango decided to go back in order to attempt to defeat Menoumaru. When Hachi inquired how they were going get there, Miroku and Sango gave him "the look", and Hachi was too scared of Miroku to say no. (really, Hachi isn't scared of Miroku, the Kaazana, definitely... but not Miroku) Once Inuyasha regained consciousness, he was intent on going back into the fight. Seeing that the hanyou was still seriously injured, Myouga tried to stop him from returning to attack Menoumaru. Inuyasha decided to return by himself.
Menoumaru blew on a small leaf whistle. The sound woke Kagome who was asleep in Kaede's cottage. On her forehead the jewel began to shimmer and glow, her eyes becoming empty and lifeless (Kikyou, is that you?). Kagome went to where Kaede was and slashed her.
At the bridge close to the village, Inuyasha saw Kagome. Getting close to Inuyasha, Kagome put her head on his shoulder. Lovingly, Inuyasha embraced her. Kagome's eyes turned red again. Inuyasha looked at the girl in his arms in shock and surprise
As his blood is dripping off of her nails, a look of realization appears on his face. It was when she went into an all out attack that Inuyasha ran away, not wanting to hurt her. Meanwhile, Menoumaru kept playing his leaf. Kagome caught up to Inuyasha next to the Tree. As Kagome is throwing concentrated bursts of power at him, Inuyasha remembered how Kikyou sealed him into that same tree.
A fluttering leaf is plucked from the air and transformed into a bow and arrow which Kagome aims at Inuyasha. While Menoumaru continued to play his mind controlling melody, his face contorts with a murderous expression.
Throwing her Hiraikotsu at Menoumaru's power sphere, Sango managed to momentarily distract him. Kagome regained movement of her body and told Inuyasha to leave. He informed her that he couldn't leave her when she was in such a state.
Taking control again, Menoumaru forced Kagome to point her arrow at Inuyasha... tears cutting crystalline paths down her cheeks, she drew her bow and shot. Seeing the arrow pierce Inuyasha's body, Kagome screamed and the gem affixed to her forehead shattered.
Kagome ran to Inuyasha and took him into her arms. Walking into the clearing, Kikyou told Kagome that she should leave since she was the one who had harmed Inuyasha and that she didn't even belong there. Taking the young girl to the well, she said that there was probably a disaster occurring in her time as well.
At the well, they can see that the wood is coming back to life and the subsequent branches were going to block the entrance to her home. Kagome claimed that she couldn't leave Inuyasha injured the way he was, and the discussion elevated between the two women... a gust of wind threw Kagome off balance and knocked her into the well back to her own time.
At the temple it is snowing heavily, and the Tree's flowers were falling off. Kagome went to the Tree and saw Inuyasha's silhouette, approaching it, the silhouette fades from sight. Looking at her hands, Kagome fell to her knees and began to sob since there wasn't any way that she could return to Inuyasha.
Kagome's mother went out of the house with blankets for grandpa and Souta who were both praying for the tree to heal. Telling Kagome how important that the tree is to their family, Kagome begins to recall when Souta was born, and how as they grew up it was always a part of their lives. Another important moment is brought up in her memory... the day that she met a certain cute boy with puppy ears sealed into the tree. Around her neck, the Shikon shards begin to glow.
Miroku and Ruri were matching the strength of their Kazaana's against each other... but prove that in sheer power, they are evenly matched. With a dagger, Ruri started to slice her own hand even further to enlarge her Kazaana. While giving her a greater advantage over Miroku, that also proved to be her downfall as she was consumed by the hole on her hand. Sadly, Miroku stared at the crater left by Ruri's death and realized that he was looking at his own fate.
Fighting against Sango, Hari sent Kirara to attack the youkai exterminator. Smiling sadly, Sango dropped her weapon and let her olf friend attack rather than defend herself and possibly harm the loving creature. After hitting Sango a couple of times and sending the woman flying across the scenery, Kirara starts trying to break the control that Hari has and began to bash it's head against a rock in an attempt to destroy the jewel. Once it is broken, the two turn and together they attack the youkai responsible for their current misery. In a well placed throw, Sango's boomerang slices the Chinese youkai in two.
Bellow the tree Inuyasha awakened. In her time Kagome brushed her fingers against the bark of the Tree. "Kagome, is that you?" he asked. Somehow the tree was connecting them through the stream of time and they could talk to each other. Quickly, Kagome apologized to Inuyasha, but he quieted her concerns, said that it wasn't her fault and that she needed to come back. Inuyasha got up and hugged the girl, not even a separation of over 500 years could detain the feelings that they had for each other.
Running, Kagome went back to the well, but found that her path back was being blocked by the branches. An arrow was let loose with all of her might and manages to clear the way back to the feudal era once more. Unfortunately, on the other side, Inuyasha was blasted by the arrow as he was attempting to clear the branches as well. (Kagome, quit trying to kill Inuyasha!) The two of them rushed to Menomaru's tree and were reunited with Sango and Miroku. Menomaru's transformation was complete... making him several times more powerful than his father.
Kagome shot an arrow at the now rather large villain, but with the heavy winds, she missed her shot and hit one of his wings instead. In retaliation, Menoumaru opened his mouth and sent a blast hurtling towards towards the reincarnated miko. Falling, Kagome is saved by Kirara and Sango. Trusting that Inuyasha would catch her, Kagome jumped from Kirara's back and into the hanyou's arms.
(boys and girls, leaping off a large creature at high altitudes is NEVER a good idea). Bewildered, Inuyasha asked her why she did that, smiling, she answered, “Because I knew that you would catch me.” Miroku looked up at Sango and told her with open arms that he would catch her as well... and ended up being hit by her gasmask instead.
Deciding to attack both at once, Kagome shot a purifying arrow in tandem with Inuyasha's Bakkuryuha and formed a huge blast that destroyed Menoumaru once and for all. With the threat gone,
The day cleared and everyone got on Hachi's back to leave the area. Predictably, Myouga appeared now that all the danger had passed (the only smart one in the group... smart enough to stay FAR away from danger), but was flicked away by Inuyasha.
Back in Kagome's time, Kagome and Inuyasha are sitting under the Tree and the hanyou can be seen absentmindedly playing with Buyo.
Curious, Kagome asked him if he wanted to eat her cooking again. Still playing with the cat, he answered that he did, he wanted to eat the microwable noodles again. Her aura filling with anger, Kagome shouted at Inuyasha... “OSUWARI!”
